Holistic Student Success Platform

Pedagogy
It's not about what we teach, but how we teach.
In most cases, faculty have more interaction with students than anyone else, but involving them in student success efforts can be challenging. Through holistic pedagogy, you can involve faculty by focusing on what they do best: helping students learn.
It's not just what we teach, it's how we teach
Our holistic pedagogy training doesn't add to faculty curricula: it provides instructional practices rooted in key holistic factors such as self-efficacy, sense of belonging, growth mindset, and engagement.

Understand what's working and for whom
We'll also help evaluate training by following up with faculty to see which practices were effective and how they had an impact on student success.
Modules
Introduction to Holistic Pedagogy
Holistic pedagogy infuses lessons from student success research into your classroom instruction. It is NOT about adding new content to your curriculum, but structuring activities, conversations, and other aspects of engaging with students to foster learning and development.
Focusing on factors like Sense of Belonging, Self-Efficacy, Engagement, and Growth Mindset, this module will help faculty better understand how these factors relate to success and embrace a holistic approach to instruction.

Giving Feedback
This module empowers faculty to use feedback not only as an instructional tool, but as a catalyst for student engagement, self-efficacy, and sense of belonging. Grounded in research on noncognitive factors and holistic student success, the module explores practical strategies for delivering feedback that is timely, supportive, and growth-oriented. Faculty participants will learn how to craft responses that motivate students, reinforce their value and potential, and create more inclusive and affirming learning environments.

Your Syllabus as a Tool to Promote Student Equity, Belonging, and Growth
This module, provided by the Student Experience Project (SEP) consists of a number of recorded videos to demonstrate practical tips for developing syllabi, as well as activities that will help you apply these concepts to your own syllabus. It should take approximately 90 minutes to watch the videos and complete the activities, plus time to revising your syllabus.

The One Minute Paper
This faculty development module introduces the One Minute Paper as a simple yet powerful classroom assessment technique that promotes holistic student success. Participants will learn how to implement this strategy to enhance student engagement, support a sense of belonging, and encourage metacognitive reflection. Grounded in research on noncognitive factors and inclusive pedagogy, the module offers practical guidance and examples to help faculty create more responsive and supportive learning environments.

Classroom Environment
Students can lack confidence in the classroom for lots of reasons, including previous academic experiences or feeling like an outsider compared to other students in college. This module provides strategies for creating a classroom environment that helps unconfident learners grow and progress, without singling them out or lowering academic standards.
